Jelena Diakonikolas to join U. Wisconsin-Madison faculty

Dr. Jelena Diakonikolas (nee Marašević), a FlexICoN alumna and a former WiMNet Ph.D. student, will join the Department of Computer Science at University of Wisconsin-Madison as an Assistant Professor in Spring 2020. Jelena received her Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University in 2016, under the advisement of Prof. Gil Zussman. Her thesis is titled “Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks: Theory and Applications”.

During and following her Ph.D. studies, Jelena received the 2015 - 2016 Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship (in collaboration with Jin Zhou for their interdisciplinary research proposal related to full-duplex wireless), GENI GREE’13 Best Educational Paper Award, Millman Award for an Outstanding Teaching Assistant, the Columbia University Electrical Engineering Master’s Award of Excellence, Morton B. Friedman Memorial Prize for Excellence, and Electrical Engineering Collaborative Research Award. She was selected as one of 10 women in networking/communications that you should watch.

Since her graduation, Jelena has been a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Computer Science, Boston University. In Fall 2018, she will be a Research Fellow in the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing followed by a postdoc at UC Berkeley’s Foundations of Data Analysis (FODA) Institute.
