FlexICoN's Jackson, Guy and Negar received EE department awards

May 17, 2019

Departmental awards were awarded to FlexICoN alumni Jackson Welles (EE BS '19), Guy Farkash (EE MS '19) and Negar Reiskarimian (EE PhD '19):

Jackson received the Electrical Engineering Department Research Award, "Awarded by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering to one outstanding graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding passion and accomplishment in research."  Jackson is currently looking for work with a bunch of Internet of Things startups around NYC, hopefully being able to continue at Columbia in the Fall in the computer science M.S. program part time. Ideally, Jackson would like to work as an embedded engineer helping develop new technologies for the rollout of IoT and 5G over the next decade.

Guy received the Electrical Engineering Department M.S. Research Award. Guy completed his B.Sc. in electrical engineering from Tel-Aviv University and completed his M.S. in electrical engineering at Columbia in Fall 2018. After graduating from Columbia Guy joined Knaq - Predictive Maintenance as Senior Engineer. Guy has been developing machine learning algorithms, firmware and hardware for remote monitoring and failure prediction in elevators and industrial machines.

Negar received the Electrical Engineering Department Jury Award, “Established in 1991, this award is presented to a graduate student or recent graduate for outstanding achievement in the areas of systems, communications, signal processing, or circuits”. This is the highest recognition awarded by the department to a Ph.D. student. In Fall 2019, Negar will join MIT as an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department.

Negar, Guy and Jackson have made significant contributions to the FlexICoN project during their time at Columbia, and we warmly congratulate them on their outstanding achievements.
